When was considering where to go next with her career, she reflected on the aspect of life at 91快播 which gives her most enjoyment and satisfaction: the supervisions.
Now, after nine years as Caius鈥 1973 Lecturer in History, Bronwen is moving to Princeton University in New Jersey, to work on the , teaching Freshmen (first years), who all, in Princeton鈥檚 liberal arts system, take a first-year writing seminar.
鈥淚鈥檝e been thinking about what comes next and one of my favourite parts of teaching at Caius has been one-to-one supervisions,鈥 Bronwen says. 鈥淭he amount of effort which goes on in Cambridge, focusing on weekly essays, helping students improve their writing and analysis over the course of eight weeks, that鈥檚 the thing I love most about this job.
鈥淲hen I was thinking about what I wanted to do next, I was thinking what replicates that. The Princeton Writing Program offered what I was looking for.鈥
The Princeton Writing Program, its website says, 鈥渢eaches critical thinking, reading, and writing, with particular emphasis on the techniques of academic inquiry and analytical argument across the disciplines鈥.
Bronwen will be teaching a seminar on economic, anthropological, and historical ideas of 鈥榲alue鈥.
鈥淥ne of the units is looking at the Panic of 1837, what ideas about value are circulating when there are periods of boom and bust,鈥 she adds. 鈥淚 am drawing on ideas that I have been thinking about with my current research 鈥 ideas about what different cultures think about economic value, and how there are miscommunications across time and space.鈥
She has also spent the past two years as at the University of Cambridge.
She adds: 鈥淭hat has been really wonderful. I鈥檝e been involved in the new Mastercard Foundation partnership across the University, as well as the Consortium for the Global South. It鈥檚 been great to see that take off and I will miss engaging with the wonderful students at the Centre of African Studies.鈥
Bronwen鈥檚 most recent book is , which will be released in October 2024.
Bronwen will be writing more books and is embarking on a part-time to experiment with different genres.
